WordPress Security Plugins

WordPress Security should play a major factor in any WordPress site. Now for the average user, these plugins may help, and save a lot of time in preventing attacks to your WordPress installation.
iThemes Security
“iThemes Security (formerly Better WP Security) gives you over 30+ ways to secure and protect your WordPress site. On average, 30,000 new websites are hacked each day. WordPress sites can be an easy target for attacks because of plugin vulnerabilities, weak passwords and obsolete software.”
This plugin is designed to defend against the majority of threats in order to protect your website from malware. One of the best features of this plugin is that it notices file changes. So if for example malicious code is injected into your website, iThemes Security will pick up on this. Another pretty neat feature is the “Away Mode”. I think this is a good feature – if you are not going to be making changes 24 hours a day. It allows you to lock down the admin area on a ‘timer’. It could also be a good feature if you are away on holiday!
Wordfence
“Wordfence starts by checking if your site is already infected. We do a deep server-side scan of your source code comparing it to the Official WordPress repository for core, themes and plugins. Then Wordfence secures your site and makes it up to 50 times faster.”
This is a good plugin if you are already infected as it can help clean up infections within WordPress. This is a great plugin and offers advanced firewall, monitoring, brute force protection and blocking features for known malicious IP addresses. I’ve seen this plugin in use, and it really does work. It’s packed full of features and out of the three, this would have my personal recommendation.
BulletProof WordPress Security
“WordPress Website Security Protection: Firewall Security, Login Security, Database Security… Effective, Reliable, Easy to use…”
This is a very similar plugin to Wordfence in that it offers a vast range of features to protect your website. The plugin may best be described as a Web Application Firewall more than a plugin. It really does a great job and is highly recommended among users. While this plugin also secures your site, it speeds it up using it’s powerful speed boost cache tools – without causing memory errors.
